I went to a men’s\u00a0chili cook-off\u00a0this past Sunday evening at our church.\u00a0\u00a0Mike Young, founder of Noble Warriors<\/a>, a local men’s ministry,\u00a0admonished the men\u00a0for the pervasive use of porn in our Christian culture.\u00a0 He recently had an opportunity to talk with a young woman, who indicated that\u00a0porn has become epidemic on college campuses.\u00a0 It’s in open view, without shame, on computer displays everywhere.\u00a0 He was shocked, particularly about her casual attitude about it.\u00a0\u00a0He reminded us of the conversation that God had with Cain, “sin is crouching at your door; it desires to have you, but you must rule over it.”\u00a0 Viewing pornography\u00a0is a very dangerous area to thread upon because it is so highly addictive.\u00a0 In 2014, Proven Men Ministries<\/a>\u00a0commissioned the Barna Group<\/a>, a leading research organization focused on faith in our changing culture,\u00a0to conduct a national survey\u00a0related to the use and effects of pornography.\u00a0 According to the survey, which is entitled “2014 Pornography Survey and Statistics<\/a>,”<\/em> about 55-77 percent of Christian men view porn monthly.\u00a0\u00a0About 18-32 percent of Christian men admit being addicted to porn, and these numbers are purportedly higher.\u00a0 I estimate that about 300 men attended the chili cook-off on Sunday.\u00a0 Based on\u00a0the statistics above,\u00a0about 165 to\u00a0231 of these men,\u00a0Christian men, had viewed porn in the past month, and about 54 to 96 are addicted to it.\u00a0 When put in this perspective, it’s alarming.\u00a0 I have talked with a number of Christian men in confidence who admit having a struggle with porn.\u00a0 Men are\u00a0hiding in the darkness, with unconfessed sin.\u00a0 They are accountable to no one.\u00a0 Sin is ruling over them.\u00a0\u00a0If they confessed this sin, based on the statistics above, they would very likely find other men who are struggling with the same sin.\u00a0 Confession is the first step towards becoming accountable.\u00a0 As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.<\/em>\u00a0 Quit hiding your sin.\u00a0 Start ruling over it!<\/p>\n
