My wife and I recently watched a movie entitled “The Good Lie<\/em><\/a>.”\u00a0 It was about\u00a0children of South Sudan displaced\u00a0by civil unrest.\u00a0 In an opening scene, rebel soldiers attacked a Sudanese\u00a0village, slaughtering all but a handful of young children.\u00a0 These surviving young\u00a0children\u00a0began a barefoot journey from Sudan towards Ethiopia.\u00a0 Over 550 miles into their trek, they\u00a0had to change course and head towards Kenya because the civil war had reportedly spread to Ethiopia.\u00a0 Over a trip that exceeded 750 miles, these young children encountered many challenges and much adversity, the likes of which most of us would\u00a0never encounter in a lifetime.\u00a0 They lost friends and watched loved ones die.\u00a0 And, through it all, they never lost hope.\u00a0 They didn’t allow their attitudes to be affected by their circumstances.\u00a0 They supported each other and repeatedly reminded themselves that they wanted to live.\u00a0 After\u00a0subsisting in a refugee camp in Kenya for thirteen years, four refugees were given asylum in the United States.\u00a0 Though they received little (for aid for airfare and accommodations), they purportedly had to repay any moneys that were expended on them.\u00a0 Wow!\u00a0 We all encounter stuff, some of us more than others, and some stuff far more impactful than other stuff.\u00a0 But again,\u00a0wow!\u00a0 Few of us can profess to go through anything like these refugees.\u00a0 We watched this on the evening that marked our daughter’s second birthday, a daughter whom we lost two years ago, only four days before her due date.\u00a0 And while\u00a0we rightfully should grieve her loss, this movie sent a message to us that so many more whom are less fortunate than we are subject to such tragedy, and they humble themselves to the Lord.\u00a0 Their attitudes are remarkable.\u00a0 How is your attitude?<\/p>\n
