{"id":365,"date":"2015-01-20T22:02:12","date_gmt":"2015-01-21T03:02:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/christiansurvey.org\/?p=365"},"modified":"2015-01-28T00:20:29","modified_gmt":"2015-01-28T05:20:29","slug":"when-can-you-be-too-good","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/christiansurvey.org\/?p=365","title":{"rendered":"When can you be too good?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Can you honestly be too good?\u00a0 What do I mean by &#8220;good?&#8221;\u00a0 I mean &#8220;good&#8221; in accordance with God&#8217;s standards, to the extent that we can be good.\u00a0 God is a never changing God, whose standards never change.\u00a0 He commands that we put Him first before all else.\u00a0 We cannot worship any other God.\u00a0 We cannot use His name in vain.\u00a0 We are supposed to have a holy day of rest.\u00a0 We are supposed to honor our parents.\u00a0 Does any of this sound familiar?\u00a0 Well, it should &#8211; these are the first five of the Ten Commandments, and of course, there are five more where these came from.\u00a0 In our culture, there are so many things that we do that we should not do, regardless\u00a0of whether they have become acceptable to the mainstream.\u00a0 But if we promote Godliness, we are said to be &#8220;old fashioned.&#8221;\u00a0 If\u00a0we advocate obedience, we are accused of being &#8220;legalists.&#8221;\u00a0 If we strive for righteousness, we are called purists who have no place in today&#8217;s culture.\u00a0 And, if\u00a0we protest against ungodly virtues,\u00a0we are labeled as intolerant, ironically by those who are intolerant.\u00a0\u00a0 Good has become bad, and bad has become good.\u00a0 But this is not how it should be.\u00a0 The world is going to be the world &#8211; the bible cautioned us about this.\u00a0 But Christians, well, they are supposed to be different.\u00a0 Christians are supposed to be in the world (i.e., a light in the world), not of the world, which is progressively becoming an utterly dark place.\u00a0 Some Christians even label other Christians as legalists for trying to promote Godliness, as if there can be too much good.\u00a0 And, some Christians say that those who think that we should be striving for righteousness are not Christians, because Christians are saved by grace.\u00a0 I know this is true because I have been accused of not being a Christian because I believe that we should strive to be righteous, even though we will miss the mark.\u00a0\u00a0 I will\u00a0never profess to be righteous but I know in my heart\u00a0if I am making every effort to be obedient to God, to be good.\u00a0 Can you be too good?\u00a0\u00a0In my opinion, you can&#8217;t.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Can you honestly be too good?\u00a0 What do I mean by &#8220;good?&#8221;\u00a0 I mean &#8220;good&#8221; in accordance with God&#8217;s standards, to the extent that we can be good.\u00a0 God is a never changing God, whose standards never change.\u00a0 He commands that we put Him first before all else.\u00a0 We cannot worship any other God.\u00a0 We&#8230;<br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/christiansurvey.org\/?p=365\">Read more <span class=\"meta-nav\">&rarr;<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":[],"categories":[7],"tags":[63],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/christiansurvey.org\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/365"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/christiansurvey.org\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/christiansurvey.org\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/christiansurvey.org\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/christiansurvey.org\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcomments&post=365"}],"version-history":[{"count":26,"href":"https:\/\/christiansurvey.org\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/365\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":539,"href":"https:\/\/christiansurvey.org\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/365\/revisions\/539"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/christiansurvey.org\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fmedia&parent=365"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/christiansurvey.org\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcategories&post=365"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/christiansurvey.org\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Ftags&post=365"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
