Yesterday, I was\u00a0visiting extended\u00a0family, picking up my kids who had spent\u00a0Saturday night there while\u00a0my wife and I\u00a0went on\u00a0a (semi-annual)\u00a0date\u00a0– we really should get out more often.\u00a0 Anyway, my son was there on the floor, playing Monopoly, right in front of the television, with the football game on.\u00a0 Now, if you have read any of my posts, you may know that we, my wife and I, do not have television service, subscription or otherwise, at our house.\u00a0 I don’t have anything against football.\u00a0 In fact, I like to watch football myself.\u00a0 And, I am not judging anyone who watches football.\u00a0 However, during\u00a0the brief time while I was there, my son got up from the floor and sat beside me on the couch, and while sitting beside me, a trailer aired on the Fox network for a television series called “Empire.”\u00a0 In the trailer, an attractive woman, who was scantily clad, traversed the screen.\u00a0 My son turned away from the screen with a grimace because he could recognize that this was not appropriate content for viewing.\u00a0 It was not appropriate for him.\u00a0 It was not appropriate for me\u00a0– a married man.\u00a0 It was not even appropriate for a single man who professes to be a follower of Christ.\u00a0 Similarly, during a recent holiday gathering with our extended family, a commercial aired during another football game, wherein a loose woman practically performed a lap dance.\u00a0 The younger men hid the remote from their mother, thinking that it was all in good fun.\u00a0 I disagree.\u00a0 I think it\u00a0was embarrassing.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Television airs content of which Christians should have no part, and the content of the commercials during the Super Bowl is usually questionable at best.\u00a0 Over the next few weeks, while you are getting pumped up for the Super Bowl, ask yourself, would I invite God over to watch the game with me?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
