In law school, we learned about legal tests.\u00a0 The parts of the tests are typically referred to as prongs.\u00a0 Each prong must be\u00a0satisfied to pass the test.\u00a0 For example, in tort law, negligence has a four-prong test.\u00a0 It requires a duty, breach, cause and harm.\u00a0\u00a0All four of these prongs must be satisfied for negligence to occur.\u00a0 Salvation\u00a0can be viewed in a similar way.\u00a0 It has a two-prong test.\u00a0 It requires faith in Jesus Christ and repentance (i.e., turning away from sin).\u00a0 Both prongs must be\u00a0satisfied for someone\u00a0to be saved.\u00a0 When we have faith in Jesus Christ, God grants His righteousness to us.\u00a0 But we must still repent.\u00a0 What is repentance?\u00a0 It\u00a0can be illustrated with\u00a0the following\u00a0parable (i.e., an earthly story with a biblical meaning).\u00a0\u00a0A man was driving a car.\u00a0 He realized that\u00a0he was\u00a0exceeding a posted speed limit.\u00a0 At the point in time when\u00a0he became cognizant that\u00a0he was speeding,\u00a0he had two choices.\u00a0\u00a0He could slow down or continue speeding.\u00a0\u00a0Driving at an excess speed is akin to sin that the man commits by virtue of his sinful nature.\u00a0 If the man slows down,\u00a0so that he is no longer speeding, it can be said that he has repented of his sin (i.e., he has turned away from his sin).\u00a0 However, if the man continues to speed,\u00a0he has\u00a0chosen to\u00a0abide in sin (i.e., he has chosen not to repent).\u00a0 What happens in the latter case if judgment comes while he is abiding in sin?\u00a0 Will\u00a0he be saved?\u00a0 Stated another way, will those who abide in sin be saved?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
