One day, my son was manning a post near the edge of our yard.\u00a0 Concerned about his safety, I asked him to move away from the street.\u00a0 He was clearly distraught.\u00a0 I asked him why.\u00a0 In response, he replied, “Because I want to tell others about Jesus.”\u00a0 He was concerned about their souls and did not want them to go to the “naughty place.”\u00a0 I agreed that he could continue if his mother would accompany him.\u00a0\u00a0He\u00a0returned to his post\u00a0with his mother, and this time\u00a0with a cooler full of popsicles – an enticement to those who passed.\u00a0 After sharing the gospel, he would conclude by asking if they needed prayer for anything.\u00a0 He was sincere, motivated by love,\u00a0and his efforts were well accepted.\u00a0 I shared this with a pastor, who said that this approach is cute when\u00a0carried out\u00a0by a young child (e.g., my son was eight years old at the time) but people are less tolerant of any approach\u00a0by adults to share the gospel.\u00a0 When Jesus talked to others, He wasn’t discouraged by rejection.\u00a0\u00a0He warned that we too would be rejected, even persecuted, when He told us to share the gospel.\u00a0 While\u00a0we should approach others with love, acceptance should not be\u00a0our guide when sharing the gospel.\u00a0 More often than\u00a0not, it will not be well accepted.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
