Do churches today water down the gospel?

Do you think that churches today water down the gospel, or sugarcoat their message in an effort to keep the pews full?  Churches, like any other institution, have financial obligations, and need revenue to meet those obligations.  Those resources come from parishioners, or attendees.  Church attendance is dropping.  As this occurs, churches may become very mindful of the message they deliver.  Messages that don’t meet the approval of the congregation may result in a reduced attendance, and diminished resources.  Should churches be sensitive to the congregation at the risk of teaching a diluted or inaccurate form of the gospel, and thus put the eternal life of the congregation at risk?
